Jarrettsville Sunflower Fields | Harford County, MD Photography
My mom and I have been talking about making a trip up to see the sunflowers again this year. Well, actually we did make a trip a few weeks ago but they weren’t in bloom yet! On Sunday, we weren’t sure if we should go or not since there was a call for storms… but we made the trip again and this time there were actually flowers to be seen. & the rain clouds ended up being an interesting contrast! Sadly, the sunflowers didn’t seem quite as large as I remembered from when I went 2 years ago. Does this have to do with the need to rotate crops? Not sure.. but who knows, maybe we’ll try again soon! Plus, there are supposed to be several fields, and I know there’s one that’s much more expansive than the one we visited. Regardless, it’s still an awesome sight to see!!
So… I’m trying something a little different with this post. A new plug-in called Flipping Book… (Oh and a disclaimer, the last 2 ‘pages’ were flowers at home.. I’ve been dying to take a photo of these red ones for a while now and the light was perfect. Need to ask my mom what they’re called though!)

& in case you’re not on sunflower overload yet… here are some images from when I went two years ago:
How unreal are these fields? love ittt
My visit in 2009 to the sunflower fields was with Kim & Sasha, who ended up getting to do some modeling for me for a photo project at school :)
I don’t think it gets much better than that.
As a sidenote, for anyone looking to have engagement or family photos taken, this would be an amazing location! Send me an email if you want to book a session (or any fall session for that matter!) :)
I just ran across your blog, you did a fantastic job . Thanks for sharing.
I am from NC, do you have an address or direction on how I can get here ? I would like to take my family to go see this year. Thanks,
Ann
my daughter would love to get married in your sunflower field! Please let me no if this is possible! Thanks!!!!
Ann & Theresa – thanks for the interest! these fields are usually best seen in September when they’re blooming, but they might even be early this year since we’ve had such an early spring.
Here are some directions to the fields from an article from the Baltimore Sun: “The most florid fields are at Jarrettsville Pike and Hess Road, Baldwin Mill Road at Route 23 and Route 439 about three miles east of Interstate 83”
Hope you can catch them this year – as far as weddings, you would have to check with the farmers but I’d love to be there to photograph!
Hi … do you know when can we go to this area to have this extraordinary view?
Typically when I’ve gone it’s mid/late September that they look their best. They’re not always as tall each year unfortunately, but I’ve got my fingers crossed!!
Do you know if they have it this year? We are planning to come up in 2 weeks from NC
Does any one have an address for this place? Can you please share with me? Thank you,
Ann
Found the Info you posted above, I will search for it. Thank you,
sure thing! good luck it’s so worth it!! im going to try to go tomorrow too ill try to look for road names this time! :)
Hi Ann – just wanted to follow up and unfortunately not with the best news :( We went up to Monkton/Jarrettsville over the weekend and while we did find some fields (off of Hess Rd and Jarrettsville Pike) they were definitely not as tall and impressive as the first year, but there are still a LOT of them which looks really cool. If you do still go to check them out I hope they’ll still be in bloom! You might be able to get the tail end of them looking their best! I’ll keep my fingers crossed and hopefully you can tell me what you think after you see them! :)
Hello. Love your photos! What do you recommend it is better to photograph the sunflowers during the sunrise or the sunset? Which direction are they facing? Thank you for your help
