UMBC Dance Senior Concert
Over the spring semester, I interned at UMBC Magazine/Creative Services and one of the assignments was at URCAD, which you can find out more about at that link. But it’s basically like a fair to show off all the amazing research and projects UMBC students have been working on, and it even includes projects from the arts – aka dance. So that’s really how I first got into photographing dance. I’d seen other performances at school but photographing one of them at URCAD made me realize how beautiful and abstract the forms and colors of the dancers are. So I was really happy to photograph at two events for the UMBC Dance Senior Concert this past weekend. It was a really interesting experience because I first shot at a designated practice/photo shoot – so we were able to pose the dancers, get them closer together, stop them, etc. to get the best shot possible. Then last week I went to a rehearsal, which was definitely a faster pace! It was so neat though to see the subtle changes that were made in the dances in the 2 weeks between shoots. It was even neater though just to be able to see the dances in motion. I really hope a lot of people were able to make it out and see it because it was an awesome sneak peek. I loved seeing how each senior choreographer put their piece together and incorporated music, form color… yeah! it was really cool! So enough talk (I feel like I’ve been rambling a lot more lately) & on to the images. Oh.. and there’s kind of a lot!! It was just hard to choose!
